Damrong Wong - Uparaj was born on 1st September 1936 in Pan district of Chiangrai province. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in painting from the Faculty of Painting Sculpture and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University and then went on to study at University College of London’s Slade School under a grant from the British Council. He was awarded the J.D. Rockefeller 3rd Fund Fellowship to do a master’s degree program in art at the University of Pennsylvania, and also received grants to do research and make study visits to France, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Australia, Japan and China.


Damrong was a very successful and famous artist recognized nationally and internationally both as artist and academic. His paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries in Asia, Europe, America and Australia. He was also a delegate representing Thailand at ASEAN, UNESCO, and other world art conventions.
